Born and raised on the West Coast and a resident of Squamish I am thrilled to be working with Roots Community Midwives and caring for the women and their families in the Sea to Sky corridor.
Before becoming a midwife, I completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and worked as a public health nurse here in the Sea to Sky corridor. I spent two summers traveling to Northern BC and worked with the First Nations communities in Dease Lake and Old Masset. While working as a public health nurse I specialized in First Nations health, sexual health education and newborn and maternal health. It was these aspects of my nursing career combined with my passion for holistic, woman-centered care that inspired me to pursue a career in midwifery.
I completed my Bachelor of Midwifery at the University of British Columbia through the Faculty of Medicine in the Spring of 2015. I worked with many families in North Vancouver and Victoria, delivering babies in both home and hospital settings. I gained confidence and knowledge to take with me overseas to complete an international placement in Uganda. My final year of school was spent mentoring under Beth Ebers here in Squamish. She taught me the true art and science of midwifery care. Shortly after graduation I starting working with the midwives at Roots Community Midwives.
As each woman’s journey through pregnancy and birth is unique, I am always inspired by the transformation that takes place within each woman. Through my experiences as a midwife I have learned the art of patience and the power of being present. Birth has shown me the strength of a woman’s body and taught me to support and trust the natural birth process.
My life outside of midwifery is spent in the mountains or on the water. I have a passion for travel and for working in my garden at home.
Occasionally your midwives will take some time off for holidays or family needs. During such times we may arrange for a Locum Midwife to care for you in our absence. We will make every effort to ensure you have a chance to meet and get to know your Locum Midwife in advance.
